We’re off to the races ...

What do Chihuahuas and Thoroughbreds have in common? Cocktails of course! Ginger and Lime is celebrating Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby with some fresh cocktail ideas!

Ginger-rita

Ingredients:

1 oz Don Julio Blanco Tequila
.25 oz Grand Marnier Liqueur
1 oz Fresh lime juice
.75 oz Ginger root simple syrup*
Garnish:
Lime wedge
Glass:
Margarita

Directions:
  1. For syrup, in small saucepan combine water, sugar and sliced ginger (1-2 inch piece ginger thinly sliced); bring to a boil; stir to dissolve sugar. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat; cool. Strain; discard ginger.
  2. Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into a margarita glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Mint Julep with a G&L twist


Ingredients:

3/4 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1-2 inch piece ginger, thinly sliced
1/2 cup bourbon
1-1/2 cup mint sprigs, loosely packed
Crushed Ice
Long strips of lime peel

Directions:
  1. For syrup, in small saucepan combine water, sugar and sliced ginger; bring to a boil; stir to dissolve sugar. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat; cool. Strain; discard ginger.
  2. Divide mint among 6 highball glasses or silver mint julep cups. Add 2 tablespoons ginger syrup to each glass. With a spoon, stir to bruise mint. Divide bourbon evenly among glasses; fill with ice. Add twist of lime.
